🎯 Learning objectives

After completing this lesson, the child should be able to:

  • Hold a pencil comfortably
  • Trace numbers 1 to 5 in order
  • Count objects from 1 to 10
Mastery learning starts small: first the pencil, then the numbers. Today we practice a tiny page every day — the mastery way.

Step 1: Get comfortable

Hold the pencil with the tripod grip: thumb and index finger on the pencil, pencil resting on the middle finger. Fat pencils and short sessions are best.

Step 2: Trace the numbers

Trace each number slowly, saying its name: 1… 2… 3… 4… 5… Trace it three times — the first time wobbly is perfect.

Step 3: Count with pictures

Count the apples out loud, one by one. Point with your finger, then say the number:

🍎 = one  ·  🍎🍎 = two  ·  🍎🍎🍎 = three!

Step 4: A little every day

The secret of mastery is daily practice: one small page, every single day. Tomorrow's page is only a tiny step harder than today's — success is always close.
