🧪 Bean in the Dark
Objective: Find out what happens to a plant that receives no light.
🔮 Step 1 — Predict first!
Your prediction
What do you predict will happen to the plant in the dark?
🧰 Materials
📋 Instructions
2. Place one cup on a sunny windowsill and one in a dark cupboard.
3. Water both cups the same amount every day.
4. After a week, compare the two plants.
⚙️ The variables
🔧 What we change
Amount of light
📏 What we measure
Plant growth and colour
⚖️ What stays the same
Type of bean, amount of water, type of container
📊 Step 2 — Collect your data
Enter your own measurements below — the chart draws itself as you type. If your experiment does not have measurements, record what you saw in the notes box.

🔍 Step 3 — Prediction vs observation
💡 The science behind it
Plants need light to make their own food. Without light, the plant in the cupboard grows pale, weak and yellowish, while the sunny plant stays green and strong.
🏁 Conclusion
The plant without light could not make food, so it became pale. Your prediction may have been right or wrong — either way, the evidence told us what really happens.
🚀 Extension challenge
Move the pale plant back to the window and watch it slowly turn green again!
🧑🏫 Teacher notes
A classic fair test: only the light changes while everything else stays the same.
